'Through the Pane' is an online video series highlighting front-line workers across
all sectors during the Covid-19 pandemic in Ireland.
'Through the Pane' is an uplifting, human-interest video series, showing how we can find light and hope even in the darkest of times. This series documents an important time in our history. It serves a purpose to our current society by providing insight into the daily work of front-line workers and promoting understanding of the importance of public support for healthcare efforts. It is a positive mental health benefit allowing people to identify with the collective public effort, which this pandemic requires.
We are a group of filmmakers who were motivated to create this project as our voluntary contribution to help. During level 5 lock-down in 2020, our public moral was dwindling and taking a strain on our mental health. 'Through the Pane' was our way of showcasing positive news to the public. We felt a duty in documenting our heroes at this period in history. The video pieces serve as an uplifting psychosocial approach to sustaining the public morale as the time-line of the pandemic extends.
We filmed conversations through the home windows of our front-line workers, volunteers and cocooners. The interviewees sat inside their home at the window as we recorded from the outside looking in. This provided a safe space for the production that followed social distancing guidelines as well as visually highlighting the pandemic and thus giving name to the title 'Through the Pane'.
